Open position in the team for a PhD student! If you want push translational Aspergillosis

EBERHARD KARLS UNIVERSITAT TUBINGEN Ph.D. student ( f / m / d ) 65 % Universitätsklinikum Tübingen The Department of Preclinical Imaging and Radiopharmacy ( Director Prof. Bernd Pichler ) at the University Hospital of the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen competes and collaborates on scientific top level in preclinical imaging with international research groups . The research group of Dr. Bézière ( infection & Inflammation ) offers a PhD position in " Multimodal preclinical imaging of Aspergillus fumigatus invasion and treatment " ( f / m / d ) 65 % The position can be filled as soon as possible in part time ( 65 % ) and is initially limited to one year with the possibility of further extension . Fungal infections are now a major challenge for public health , as the amount of immunocompromised patients is increasing . The World Health Organization recently published a fungal priority pathogens list highlighting the threat posed by Aspergillus fumigatus . This fungus can invade the airways of immunocompromised hosts , settle in their respiratory systems and further invade other organs . In our previous efforts , embedded in an international research network , we have shown the potential of pathogen specific molecular imaging for diagnosis and therapy monitoring of Aspergillosis , from bench to bedside . During these studies , we have also highlighted the need for further continued work on the approach . In this DFG funded PhD project and in close collaboration with the team of Prof. Gunzer ( University of Duisburg - Essen ) , we want to investigate how modifications of a radiotracer can significantly enhance its diagnosis and therapy monitoring performance using in vitro and in vivo assays , focusing on a multimodal PET / MRI / Fluorescence approach . We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated candidates , eager to answer highly relevant biomedical questions and evolve in a multidisciplinary environment notably using state of the art imaging techniques . The candidate , fluent in English , should ideally possess scientific expertise in microbiology ( fungal infections ) , cellular biology , or biochemistry demonstrated by a relevant Master of Science in the field and a keen interest in preclinical imaging sciences . Hands on experience with preclinical PET , MRI or CT imaging is a plus but not a requirement .
